4-5  9:39. The American Kestrel is a fancy flyer that can 'wind hover' into the wind searching for small rodents and birds.  In the summer months grasshoppers, crickets, dragonflies and beetles are a major part of the kestrel's diet. They can be seen perched on telephone wires looking into roadside and open field grass for prey.  These are the smallest falcons in northern California. They has a loud shrill voice Klee! Klee! Klee!
