A Storm to Remember. On December 22nd, 1964 the flood reached the
highest river level ever recorded at 55.2 feet.  Klamath's history is one of great floods. The 1964 flood was brought on by a heavy snow pack in the mountains combined with warm weather and lots of tropical rain. The river was flowing over 550,000 cubic feet per minute.  All of old Klamath downtown was swept away.  The Hwy 101 bridge was destroyed.
