Moving Earth. The Trinity Watershed's steep canyon walls have rock types that are prone to landslides and erosion.  With the area's high rainfall, the Trinity is prone to dynamic water levels and sediment loading.  The flood of 1964 had a major impact on the mainstem and south fork.  The  seismically active watershed lies along the Cascade subduction zone and the northernmost  San Andreas Fault.  Trinity Alps' tributaries to the Trinity River include Canyon Creek, the North Fork and New River.  In the wet winter of 1890 a mountain gave way near Burnt Ranch Gorge, creating a 200 foot high earthen dam blocking the Trinity River.
