A photo of petroglyphs on Horse Mountain with the words: Land of Fire and Flood. For 12,000 years ancient people have come and gone as the Tule Lake Basin went through cataclysmic periods of change. The recently arrived Modocs roamed the sagebrush covered lava plateaus and wooded mountains.Their domed dwellings were scattered along the shores of Tule Lake and Lost River.
